90 years on, OGSSI continues its proud legacy as one of India's pioneering societies dedicated to maternal and child health, with continued national representation and contributions from eminent speakers worldwide.

Founded in 1934, OGSSI is one of India's oldest societies in obstetrics and gynaecology and one of the first two in the country, alongside the Bombay Obstetric and Gynaecological Society. It was founded under the dynamic stewardship of Sir Dr A L Mudaliar. Over nine decades of service to women's health, it has been guided by doyens in the field, including Prof M K Krishna Menon, Prof Masani and Dr Ida Scudder, alongside countless eminent stalwarts in obstetrics and gynaecology who have driven its success.

The society helped organise the first All India Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Madras and was among the five societies that came together to form FOGSI. Since then, OGSSI has hosted AICOG three times and has been twice recognised as FOGSI's best-performing society.

OGSSI has also been represented at the national level through FOGSI President Padma Shri Dr B Palaniappan and Vice President Dr A Kurian Joseph, among other members who have served in FOGSI leadership.
