OGSSI was the first society of India started under the
dynamic stewardship of Dr.Mudaliar in the year 1934.
It
is a non profit organization dedicated to Maternal and
Child Health.
The Obstetric and
Gynaecological Society of Southern India (OGSSI) was
the first society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists to be started in India 75 years ago
in 1934. This society was chaired by doyens in the
field like Sir. Dr.A.L.Mudaliar, Prof. M.K.Krishna
Menon, Prof. Masani and Dr.Ida Scudder. This
organization of Obstetricians and Gyanecologists is
dedicated to maternal and child health, safe
motherhood and family Welfare apart from teaching
and training post graduates and junior doctors. Over
the years, the society has been rendering
commendable service in the field of maternal and
child health and family welfare.
The activities focuses
around better birth initiative, contraception,
cancer screening and other socially oriented
obstetrics and Gynaecological problems.
For the past few years, the
society has been recognized as a nodal body for
coordinating the safe mother initiative with other
societies in TamilNadu. This entails conducting
regular discussions, meetings and workshops at the
places of the respective societies so that the local
problems and constraints could be understood and
addressed.
It
conducts monthly Clinical Meetings where cases of
clinical interest form various Institutions are
discussed and a Guest Lecture by eminent persons of
various allied specialities is presented.
It
also conducts monthly C.M.E.Programes for the benefit of
Post Graduates and Practitioners.
Every year a week long Revision Course is conducted for
exam going Post Graduates which is attended by Post
Graduates from various parts of the State and
neighboring States.
It
continues to function from the most premier Institute -
Institute of
Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Egmore. The Government of
TamilNadu has allotted 2 Grounds ( 4800 Sq.Feet) of
land in the same compound of the Institute of Obstetrics
& Gynaecology. Arrangements are initiated for the
constructions of our own building with an Auditorium.
Eminent stalwarts in the field of Obstetrics &
Gyanecology have worked hard for the success of the
Society.
This society has the pride of having hosted 2 All India
Congress in the Year 1983 & 1991 at Chennai and also had
FOGSI President Sri Padmasree Dr. B.Palaniappan and
senior vice president FOGSI D.A.Kurian Joseph from this
society .
OGSSI is the reception of the Presidents Rotate Trophy
for the best performed Society for the period
01.04.19991 to 31.03.1992.
Various eminent speakers from National & International
arena have conducted Workshops & given lectures for the
well being of the Maternal & Child Health.
